Jobs in Italy

Search jobs

Unfortunately, the job market in Italy is not very dynamic and finding a job is hard. That is the main reason why a lot of Italians actually leave the country to find jobs abroad. In Italy, it is difficult to be ambitious without the right connections because Italy has a long tradition of nepotism. Italy has one of the lowest employment rates in the European Union.

Media, communication, tourism, finance and international business are the main job sectors open to foreigners. If you are after a top executive job, then searching through Italy's national papers could be a good place to start. For example, the Corriere della Sera publishes Corriere Lavoro every Friday, another important financial paper is Il Sole24Ore.

In Italy, the normal working week is 40 hours, although collective agreements may lead to shorter working weeks. The maximum number of hours worked in one week should not exceed 48 (including overtime). Normal business hours are from 8 or 9am to 6 or 7pm. Lunch is taken between 1pm and 3pm.

Lately Italy has developed a network of Tele-workers, people who work from home. In the last years, the number of Tele-workers has doubled in Europe and more than tripled in Italy.
