Italy is part of the Eurozone, so the Euro (€), is legal tender in Italy. The Euro is divided as follows: bills of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500; coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 Euros, 20 and 50 cents. The notes are different form each other by size and color. The currency used before the Euro was the Lira (still in circulation until 28 February 2002).

You can obtain Euros in any bank, ATM machines or exchange office (Ufficio di cambio) at airports, seaports and railway stations in the main cities.
