MBA Japan Hospitals and Clinics in Japan

Medical services in Japan largely consist of private clinics and general hospitals that work under the guidance of Health Care System.

Private clinics can be named "iin" or "shinryojo." There are 79,000 clinics that offer mostly out-patient services, and around 48,000 dental clinics. Generally, they are managed by individual doctors and most of them do not have in-patient services. On the other hand, general hospitals have an ample range of specialized doctors and sophisticated equipment. These hospitals play a more important function in the delivering of good health services mostly to the elder. There are about 1000 ample hospitals, around 8,700 general hospitals and 1000 mental hospitals. These hospitals offer both out-patient and in-patient care.

In Japan, people commonly prefer to go to bigger hospitals rather than going to private clinics in the neighborhood. For that reason bigger hospitals are crowded with out-patients and sometimes it takes an entire day to have a check-up and get medication.
